Site Electrician

You pull cable through conduit, fit boxes, sockets and switches, wire distribution boards to the single line drawing and terminate to the marked numbers. You test continuity and insulation before the wall is closed and note the result on the site sheet. On a refurbishment you trace an existing circuit before you cut into it and isolate it with the site supervisor present. Work is Monday to Friday, 07:00-15:00, with an earlier finish in the summer heat, and you report to the site foreman.

Trade school for an electrician or an electrical fitter

At least three years on building sites, new build or refurbishment

Reading a single line drawing and a cable schedule

Working with a tester, a clamp meter and an insulation tester

Driving licence B, since the crew moves between sites

Basic English for equipment manuals and safety signs

Electricians who work cleanly to the drawing take the site leader role on a smaller project within two years, and the firm pays for the qualification needed to sign off an installation.

Building sites in and around Split, partly enclosed and partly open to the sun, with dust, scaffolding and other trades working alongside. A helmet, boots and eye protection are mandatory on every site.
